Bitcoin Market Analysis

This report helps you understand where Bitcoin might be heading. We look at two types of clues: price patterns and what people are actually doing with their Bitcoins. Together they give a clearer picture than either alone.

Reading the Price Charts

Think of Bitcoin's price like waves on the ocean. Small waves (hourly moves) ride on top of medium waves (daily moves), which ride on top of big waves (weekly moves). We use a smart filter that ignores the tiny splashes and focuses on the real direction the water is flowing.

When the weekly direction is up and the daily direction agrees — that's a good sign. When they disagree, we wait for clarity. We only use the hourly charts to fine-tune details — like picking the exact moment to jump in the water, not whether to swim at all.

We also track important price levels where Bitcoin tends to bounce or face resistance. Think of these as invisible floors and ceilings. When price approaches a ceiling and breaks through, that's often the start of a bigger move up. When it hits a floor and bounces — buyers are stepping in.

The Big Picture: Is Bitcoin Cheap or Expensive?

We track whether Bitcoin is "cheap" or "expensive" compared to what people actually paid for it using MVRV. Below certain levels it's historically undervalued — think of the bottoms in 2018 and 2022. Above certain levels you're in expensive territory where big holders start selling. The peaks in 2017 and 2021 all showed these warning signs before crashes.

Right now: MVRV reads around 1.28, meaning Bitcoin is trading about 28% above what the average holder paid. During the manic peaks of 2021, this was above 3.0 (people sitting on 200%+ profits). When it dropped below 1.0 in late 2022, Bitcoin was trading below cost — a great buying opportunity. At 1.28, we're in "fair value" territory. No euphoria, no panic. Room to run without extreme pullback risk.

Are People Selling at a Loss or Profit?

One key thing we watch is whether people moving their Bitcoin are selling at profit or loss. When lots of people are panic-selling at a loss — historically that's been a great time to buy. Fear creates opportunity. When everyone is aggressively taking profits, the easy money might be over.

Right now: SOPR reads about 0.986 — meaning people moving Bitcoin are selling at a small loss on average. When this dips below 1.0, it signals weak hands capitulating — they bought higher and now sell lower out of fear. Here's the contrarian insight: these periods often mark local bottoms. Once sellers are exhausted, prices move up more easily.

Where Are the Coins Flowing?

Another powerful signal: are people moving Bitcoin onto exchanges (preparing to sell) or off exchanges (planning to hold long-term)? When coins leave exchanges for weeks, it means long-term believers are accumulating. When coins flood into exchanges, selling pressure is building.

Right now: Exchange netflow shows about -16,889 BTC — nearly 17,000 Bitcoins have flowed OUT of exchanges recently. Think of exchanges like a marketplace. When inventory keeps leaving shelves and going into people's homes, there's less available for sale. This supply squeeze can support higher prices. Negative netflow of this magnitude is a healthy accumulation signal.

What Are Traders Betting On?

Bitcoin has a huge futures market where people bet on future prices. We can see whether most traders are betting on price going up or down, and how aggressive those bets are. When everyone is heavily betting on price going up and paying high fees to do it — the market is getting greedy. Those crowded bets often end painfully.

Right now: Funding rate sits at -2.1% — unusual and worth noting. Normally in a bull market, funding is positive (longs pay shorts). But negative funding means shorts are actually paying longs to stay in position. When most traders position for a drop (hence negative funding), they often get it wrong. The market tends to squeeze the majority. Any upward move can trigger short liquidations, accelerating the push higher.

Putting It Together

No single indicator tells the whole story. Our system generates strong signals only when multiple factors align. For a confident buy signal, we want to see: the big-picture trend pointing up, people who sold at a loss starting to buy back, Bitcoin flowing off exchanges, and the market not being overvalued. When these align, the odds tilt in your favor.

Current picture: Market not overvalued (MVRV 1.28), some holders capitulating (SOPR below 1), long-term believers accumulating (negative netflow), traders positioned for a drop (negative funding). This combination has historically been more favorable for buyers than sellers. Not a screaming "buy now" — but risk/reward tilts positively for patient buyers.

Risk Management

Even with good signals, nothing is guaranteed. Macro events — interest rate surprises, regulatory news, market shocks — can override any on-chain signal. Never put all your eggs in one basket. A good rule: never risk more than you can afford to lose on any single decision. Have a plan for when things go wrong — know where you'll exit if the market turns against you.
